The African Horoscope And Its 12 Astrological Signs

Although the ancient Babylonians supposedly ‘discovered’ astronomy in the 18th century. Africans had their own zodiac system long before that. Africa is an intensely rich, diverse and some would say mystical continent. It is old and it is beautiful. It is also home to a massive number of tribes with their own cultures and languages. So of course, Africa has always had its own horoscope and astrology.  The African horoscope is based on the study of human characteristics, and it has been passed down orally from generation to generation for many years. This enabled each person to better understand themselves and how to influence their destiny depending on their zodiac sign.

Geomancy, a method of divination, is the source of African astrology. It is known as one of the most accurate forms of astrological guides. This divination reads ground markings or patterns made by tossing bones, earth, or rocks, which are then used to read the African zodiac. African ancestors were able to understand African astrology for themselves using this method. The practitioner casts three bones onto a flat surface and the lines and angles result in a twelve-point system representing the twelve signs of the African zodiac.

Though the African zodiac is very different from the western one, it has few similarities. For one each sign is linked to an element. Either air, water, fire or earth. Each sign is also linked to a body part. Every sign has a lucky day and lucky months.

The 12 signs of the African zodiac connected their findings to core African cultural symbols, illuminating the traits of those born under each sign.
