9 Foods That Can Help You Get Through A Breakup

It’s a sad fact that if you live to be at least 15 and older you will at some point experience a breakup. Most of these breakups will be easy to deal with and you’ll probably get over them in a few days, a week or, tops, a month. It’ll be like nothing happened. But, some will stay with you, the pain will linger, it’ll stick to you like a second skin. Those breakups can hurt like hell.

Everyone deals with a breakup differently. Everyone hurts and heals differently. Our timelines and processes can never be the same. However, no matter how hurt we never forget to eat. Here are some foods that should help ease the pain, even if it’s just for a few minutes:

Smoothies

It may be difficult to get anything down the first few weeks. This is why smoothies are perfect. You can just slurp it absentmindedly while crying your eyes out, distracting yourself or doing anything really.

Another great option for those first few weeks. It’s easy to keep down because it’s basically just flavoured water plus chicken makes most people happy.

Red Wine

I’m very partial to this. I love wine. It makes me feel great. It makes most people feel great. It can also help you forget your worries for a little while. It’s not a cure but it’s an amazing anaesthetic. For those who don’t like wine, any alcohol will do.

This is the definition of comfort food! It puts a smile on most people’s faces. The combo of cold and sweet may be just the distraction you need. It could also be the catalyst you need to have a nice long cry. Trust me, you’ll feel better after crying.

Chocolate

It is scientifically proven that chocolate can induce joy. I mean even after getting drained by a dementor in Harry Potter, you’re given chocolate. It clearly has magical properties (don’t quote me on that). Eat as much as you can stomach. Eat even more than if necessary.

Who doesn’t love cake? Buy a bunch of cupcakes and eat all of them while watching really sappy shows. You’re bound to feel a little bit better afterwards.

Asian food is so amazing, most people love it. So choose your best kind (for me, it’s Chinese), snuggle up in bed and just wolf it down.

Universally, chicken is adored. You literally CANNOT go wrong with this. Get if fried for that extra oomph. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, you can go for vegan chicken.

Your Favourite Food

Yes, most of these can work. Yes, most of these can give you the comfort you need. But most people have a specific favourite food or go-to comfort food. Something that no matter the time of the day, no matter the occasion, they will ALWAYS want, crave or eat. For me, it’s anything made with chicken. So get that, and let it bring some joy into your life.
