When did you know it was time to leave a relationship? For some, a relationship just ends after running its due course. There is no thought or strategy to it. For others, the end of a relationship begins way before the final bomb is dropped. Subtle hints in the partners behavior may set off a chain of events that ultimately lead to the dreaded words… its over. We asked the women in our community to share the moment they knew it was time to end a relationship and for many of them, it was culmination of moments drawn to a peak by one last straw. Some of these responses are funny, some will make you open your mouth in shock while others might make you down right upset. They all have one thing in common however, they are all coming from women who, at some point in their relationship, realized that they deserved better. From lack of communication to poverty, here are some of the reasons women have ended a relationship.

He was about leaving for NYSC after 6 years of finishing school, I was with his family that morning and his dad told me to stop praying for myself now and focus on his son and I looked at him to see his reaction but he was all smiles. Like I myself don’t need someone to pray for me?

He was just too violent. Don’t get me wrong, he was the gentlest guy in person but his words were so violent.
Any small thing “if they try me, I’ll kill then”, “I go off anybody wey vex me”, “I go just cut their head”. The references to violence just made me cringe all the time. I didn’t want to stick around to find out if it was just talk or if he was actually capable of doing those things.

I don’t think there’s much to say here tbh. He had a fiancee I found out. He wanted me to be his second wife but I don’t play like that. End of discussion, case closed.

I wasn’t getting the same amount of effort I was putting in, and I hate that it even took me that long to realize. One Friday after days of not hearing from him, he finally picked his call. We barely talked before he had to go so he promised to call me when he got home. That evening, I waited by my phone, I was very excited, I didn’t even go out. He did not call me, and he did not reach out to apologize or explain himself. I later saw on his friend’s story that he went clubbing that night. I decide then that i was done, I did not reach out again after that, and you know what, neither did he. Everything just ended because I decided to stop trying so hard.

He was cute and everything and at that moment, it felt like what I wanted. The first time he broke up with me because I posted my brother’s picture, we resolved it, but something in me told me not to get too comfortable with the relationship. It went on and on, he broke up with me every week over nothing and when I say nothing, I mean nothing. It was like he had spiritual issues. One day, we went out together with some friends, next thing, I saw my old friend, so I stood up to go and exchange pleasantries, that was where the problem started. When I was finished with the pleasantries thing, I came to my seat. He started shouting at me, I even tried to calm him down, as per we were in public, oga said he will slap me and I’ll do nothing about it. I stood up and went home and that was it.
