9 Myths on “How to Flush Out Sperm” That Are Completely Untrue

A good fraction of the people having unprotected sex probably also don’t want babies. And in many African countries, contraceptives and morning-after pills may not be readily available to some. Because of this, they result to unconventional methods that usually cause more harm than good. Here are some myths people believe really does flush out sperm from the vagina.

Walking Around For Up To 15 Minutes Immediately After Sex

This may push sperm away from your cervix but the sperm that has already gotten to the uterus can’t be ‘flushed out’ this way.

Washing The Vagina Thoroughly Immediately After Sex (douching)

This will give you an extremely clean vulva but it cannot, in any way, help you truly flush out sperm. It can help clean away the sperm on your outer vulva and if you douch, some sperm can be cleaned out of the vagina but as mentioned above, if some sperm has gotten to your uterus through your cervix, it won’t be going anywhere. PS, Douching isn’t recommended for women.

Peeing Immediately After Sex

Ladies, your urine comes out from your bladder, not your uterus. If washing out your vagina won’t get it out, peeing definitely will not either.

Drinking Salt Water

A lot of people drink salt water immediately after sex because it is believed that alkalinity has the ability to remove sperm from the vagina. Sisters, I kid you not, it does not. All it does is mess with the acidity in your stomach. It does nothing to your vagina.

Using Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has a lot of uses. It’s a cleaning agent, a weight loss booster, and so on. Its level of acidity is so much, that it helps kill bacteria and could even kill sperm when douching but it cannot find its way to your uterus. Not by drinking or douching.

Alcohol & Teabags

To all my sisters who soak Lipton into bottles of Chelsea and leave them overnight and then proceed to drink it the next day, you are doing nothing but getting yourself incredibly drunk. Yes, alcohol is bad for a baby and could make you lose your pregnancy but it cannot flush out sperm from your uterus. You may get cramps after taking it but it is highly possible those cramps aren’t in the uterus.

Antibiotics

Antibiotics are created to fight bacteria. They have zero to no ability to fight sperm. That is not its job. So taking amplicox immediately after sex does nothing for the sperm already inside of you.

Exercising

Some people start doing lunges and/or squats immediately after sex, thinking the activity will push the sperm out of the vagina. It can’t. You’re just working on your glutes.

Jumping Up And Down For At Least 5 Minutes

This is almost the same as walking but some people feel it’s more effective because of the force involved. Friendly reminder, if sperm has gotten into your cervix you cannot flush it out by ANY of the methods mentioned in this article.
